Changing air and fuel filters

Proper maintenance of air, fuel and hydraulic filters are important maintenance requirements for equipment operating in dirty and wet conditions. When replacing the air or fuel filter, refer to the operator's manual and follow the instructions carefully. Shortcuts are a common cause of pollution and problems.

The hydraulic oil is filtered when it returns to the tank instead of the pressure side. To inspect or clean the hydraulic oil filter, loosen the cover to release the tank pressure. Clean the oil filter cover to prevent dust and debris from falling into the filter; remove the filter cover and remove the dust from the top of the filter. Remove the filter and clean it if necessary, making sure to follow the instructions exactly. Finally, reassemble and inspect the O-rings and components for damage and dirt.

Slewing bearing and slewing gear maintenance

Slewing gears are vital components and are often overlooked when servicing excavators. Bearings and gears should be properly lubricated and free from contamination. Make sure that the bearings are properly lubricated and check the slewing gears to ensure that there is sufficient grease and that water or dirt does not penetrate the compartment.

Spark plugs

When inspecting or replacing the spark plug, be sure to clean and reinsert the spark plug. Before reinstalling the spark plug, don't forget to clean the threads and seat area and replace the gasket. In addition, it is important to use the appropriate torque when reinstalling the spark plug (refer to the operator's manual).

Troubleshooting Low Power

When solving known low-power issues, start with simple things. Look for obstructions (such as leaves) on the air and fuel filters, and remove or clean them if necessary. Measure the actual cycle time and compare it with the service time specified in the service manual. This will determine if there are actual or perceived issues. Valve adjustments may be required, but this is a more complex issue and may require a dealer.

Following these maintenance procedures and maintaining proper records will help reduce operating and unplanned maintenance costs and keep the excavator in top operating condition.
